 Plastic Islands

The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is a collection of marine debris in the north Pacific Ocean. Marine debris is litter that ends up in oceans, seas, and other large bodies of water. The Great Pacific Garbage Patch, also known as the Pacific trash vortex, spans waters from the west coast of North America to Japan. The patch is actually comprised of the Western Garbage Patch, located near Japan, and the Easter Garbage Patch, located between the U.S. States of Hawaii and California.

The GPGP covers an estimated surface area of 1.6 million square kilometers, an area twice the size of Texas or three times the size of France. In our ocean there are five floating plastic islands that threaten to eradicate much of the marine life and contribute to climate change. 

plastic waste islands are giant clusters of plastic in the oceans. From a distance, you can see a large spot on the  surface of the water. Further getting close to it you clearly see plastic bags, containers, and piece of plastic that forms it.

These large spots of garbage in the seas are undoubtedly the fault of human beings, of course. As we are the only species over the planet, who invented and consumed this harmful material and threw it casually 

Hike over the plastic island is one of threatening environmental problems, that is the non-degradable thing. However, some people even burn their waste plastic, instead of spending it fir recycling locations. The burning is not a quick solution, as it leads to harmful gases that spread over the layer of atmosphere.

The Ocean Cleanup, a non-profit organization, continues it's mission to remove 90% of floating plastic that pollutes the water bodies like in the North Pacific Ocean by developing and scaling artifical coastlines that trap the plastic for easy extraction.

We will never be able to remove every single piece of plastic from the oceans. However, by intercepting plastic in rivers, and cleaning what is already out there, a signficant decrease of floating debris in the ocean's accumulation zones can be achieved.
